A woman has a 1 in 8 chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in her lifetime. Unfortunately the likelihood of having, or knowing someone who has had a personal experience with breast cancer is nearly unavoidable.
As much as I had the pleasure of meeting a great friend 6 1/2 years ago, and truly enjoying all of the time I had with Mary in such a short time, I also had my first experience with breast cancer. By her side, I participated in my first Race for the Cure. Today, and always, she will always be a part of who I am. Her presence will continue to shine through all of us as the star that she always was as we come together in Marching for Mary!!!
Since the last race, once of my closest friends - my Sammy girl - was diagnosed with and began her fight against breast cancer. She is on to her very last chemotherapy treatments and we all hope that they will be her very last forever. She has brought us all on a journey through her shared experiences, and I am awestruck by the grace, beauty, and strength with which she has been fighting her fight.
Both of these women have been such an inspiration in my life and in the lives of those around them, and I am truly blessed to have been gifted with their friendship. On October 1st, I walk to support this fight against breast cancer in honor of my dear friends. Please take a stand with me in this fight against breast cancer by making a donation!
